Providence College has a live on-campus requirement for the first three years of your college experience unless you apply for the Junior Year Off-campus Living if available. Once you are a senior, you can choose to live off-campus without the approval of the residential office at PC. Although it seems like you may have a lot of time before you begin your search, don't wait until the last minute to start looking.

At JumpOffCampus, we'd recommend starting your search during the beginning of your junior year at most if you are planning to move away your senior year. This gives you enough time to figure out your budget and maybe save, decide who your roommates are going to be, compare and visit neighborhoods in the Providence area and maybe ask some of your peers where they live and how they like it. There’s nothing more trustworthy than a solid review, so asking fellow students about their experiences might help your search be as easy and smooth as possible.

Once you have understood your apartment “must-haves” you can start reaching out to landlords so you can tour the apartments, which you can do after winter break. Remember to be presentable and make a good first impression with the landlords you meet. Your landlord can make or break your apartment experience, so keep that connection strong and friendly! Although not every timeline is the same, we at JumpOffCampus recommend you begin your search at the beginning of your second semester. If this feels to late, start even earlier! Don’t wait until you find the “perfect” apartment to start contacting landlords. The housing process moves quick and apartments fill even quicker so don’t leave it until the last minute.
